When the air smells like summer, a large number of Canadians daydream about their first day of summer camp. Summer camp, whether it was amazing, embarrassing, entertaining, or something altogether else, leaves lasting impressions and occupies a special place in our hearts and minds.
In response to the overwhelmingly positive response to the first ASC Summer Camp in 2019 – and with fond memories of our own summer camp experiences – All Seniors Care has planned an incredible three-day summer camp jam-packed with inspiring summer activities to help residents "keep calm and carry on."
Since July, when dwellings and inhabitants were invited to pick a camp mascot that they believed was the most indicative of their collective personality, the anticipation has grown. There was a lot of competition! They are more than just a fortunate charm; they serve as a reminder to campers that they must keep a certain amount of distance at this year's camp. The mascots range in appearance from adorable to insane and back to adorable.

To that end, get your friends and some bug juice, warm up to the campfire, and join us for a sneak peek at some of the amazing themed activities we have planned for this year! And don't forget to keep an eye out on social media for the hashtag #ASCSummerCamp. Beginning on August 18th and continuing through August 20th, we'll be publishing images of the hilarity!!.
The first day of school
Residents will dress in red, white, and green, in honor of Italy's traditional Ferragosto Festival, as they begin the day with a Sit Stretch Exercise group, followed by a game of Pétanque Atout, a game that is a near cousin of bocce ball. A typical Italian meal, an art presentation, and even an accordion player will serenade people while they relax in the afternoon sun will all be held in celebration of the ancient event, which dates back to the era of the Roman Emperor Caesar Augustus. Finalize the day by telling ghost stories over a campfire, which is always obligatory and terrifying!
Country Western Appreciation Day
Make use of your bandana and enjoy the sunlight while doing Zumba! This, of course, is merely a warm-up for a day that will be full of revelry! Having consumed fare that would make a cowboy and a lady envious, the conductor proceeds to divulge his insider information to anybody who wants to join him for a seat. The afternoon will include a round of ladder golf (which rumor has it was formerly played with rattlesnakes), followed by a Country and Western dance where you may kick up your heels!
Derby Day in Kentucky
During the final day of camp, residents will participate in a Sunrise Yoga class to prepare for a full day of fun and competition inspired by the Kentucky Derby on the following day. Make sure to dress in your finest Kentucky Derby hat in honor of a famous tradition from the American South that is being celebrated this weekend.
Interesting fact: Normally conducted on the first Saturday in May, Covid-19 has forced Derby organizers to postpone the race until September this year, instead of the traditional first Saturday in May. The only other occasion the Kentucky Derby was postponed was in 1945 when the country was engulfed in World War II.
As is traditional at the Derby, campers will retire to the shade in the middle of the day to sip mint julips (virgin, of course) while engaging with a local community leader about concerns that are special to seniors. Following that, residents are welcome to participate in the physically separated festivities, which include a medal presentation, a short story completion exercise, and a sing-along.
This is only a small sample of the activities that take place during ASC Summer Camp. Residents will also get the opportunity to hear from and experience great performances. Chefs will create bespoke menus for the occasion; while the event may be inspired by childhood memories of spending time in cabins and exploring the outdoors, the cuisine will not be.
Adult Summer Camps are available in the following locations:
Are you astonished to learn that there is a summer camp that is not for children? The concept is becoming increasingly popular. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of summer camps for adults. They provide individuals with an opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, gain new skills, and meet friends with people who share their interests. It's also a simple method to enjoy a sense of nostalgia. A campfire, exploring the woods, and singing songs beneath the sky are all things that people may experience in their minds' eyes.
Is it fair that children get to enjoy all the fun? There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to attend camp as well.
