If the Spanish version of Money Heist stole your heart, watch out for its Korean remake.

You’ll be seeing top-notch actors and actresses on the show. Kim Hong-sun, best known for The Guest and Voice, will be directing the 12-episode series. Ryu Yong-jae will write the adaptation. He’s the screenwriter of numerous Netflix original series such as My Holo Love.

He will collaborate with fellow writers Choe Sung-jun and Kim Hwan-chae on a fresh storyline introducing Korean characters, culture, and setting. BH Entertainment and Content Zium will be co-producing the series.

In a statement to variety, Alex Pina (the creator of La Casa de Papel) said, "Korean creators have been developing their language and audiovisual culture for years. They have managed, like our series, to go beyond cultural borders and become a point of reference for thousands of viewers around the world, especially among young people."

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions and the resurgence of the virus in South Korea, it was postponed last year, but now it's finally in pre-production. However, there's no official release date and trailer yet. Hopefully, we can expect the remake to be released sometime in 2022. The important thing is this highly anticipated series is now underway! 

Each episode has a comparable length to its Spanish counterpart. However, the Korean remake's first season will include three extra episodes.

Jun Jong-seo (who plays Tokyo in the forthcoming remake) stated in a feature interview with DAZED KOREA magazine on July 22 that each gang member in the Korean remake has the same name as the Spanish original but they will all have individual characteristics. 

"It has the same name as the adaptation, but an entirely different personality and adaptability to the character. The major characters are the bank robbers, but there are bound to be human elements," she added, which sounds exciting!

The fifth and final season is currently airing on Netflix, so while you're still waiting for the Korean remake, you can stream the original one.
