Musical's run stopped after star tests positive for COVID-19

His co-stars have all gotten tested and are waiting for their results.

The musical theater program On Air – Spinoff will suspend performances for the time being after cast member Kim Minhyuk—lead dancer and lead rapper of the boy group NOIR—tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

The show’s run, which began last June 30, was supposed to end on August 15. But because of Minhyuk’s condition, the curtains on the Uniplex Art Theater won’t go up again until after July 18. Furthermore, ticket selling for offline and online viewing has been put on hold. A new schedule will be created after the cast and crew have undergone quarantine and their test results are released.

On Air - Spinoff is a spinoff of the surprisingly popular On Air – Secret Contract. It’s best described as a cross between a live radio show and a theater performance. Hosted by a star DJ, it features reenactments of stories sent in by audience members.

For this run, the team behind the show had tapped the following celebs to be star DJs: Baek Ah Yeon, iKON’s Kim Jin Hwan, MIRAE’s Dongpyo, VICTON’s Haechan and Sejun, Yubin (formerly of Wonder Girls), Wonho (formerly of MONSTA X), and Yerin (formerly of GFriend).

The actors who signed up to take part in the live reenactments of stories include Han Jun Young, Hashtag’s Dajung and Hyunji, NOIR’s Hoyeon and Siheon, Park Jin Joo, and more.

Baek Ah Yeon tested negative for the virus, but she will go into isolation for 14 days just to be safe. iKON’s Kim Jinhwan is also negative, but his agency YG Entertainment says they are waiting to see if he is deemed a close contact, in which case he’ll need to go into isolation as well.

Dongpyo's COVID-19 test results revealed that he too doesn’t have the virus, but he already went into isolation anyway as a precaution. Meanwhile, Yubin and Wonho weren’t exposed to the virus because they had yet to appear on the show, so they’re safe.

South Korean health officials are becoming concerned, because NOIR’s Minhyuk is the second person from the entertainment industry to come down with the virus in the past few days. Furthermore, the country has seen a rise in cases, with the daily number going over 1,000—the highest total since the pandemic began last year. As such, they’re worried about the possibility of a greater outbreak.

Here’s hoping that won’t happen, for everyone’s sake.
