Celebrity chef Lee Yeonbok talks about his bond with BTS’s Jin

The two have been very good friends for four years!

Lee Yeonbok is one of the most popular chefs in South Korea. He’s best known for his research on Chinese cuisine, which he parlayed into a stint as the chef-owner of Mokran, a Korean restaurant specializing in Chinese dishes. He also served as the head chef of the Chinese Embassy in Seoul. He currently teaches at the Korea Tourism College.

Aside from making his mark in the culinary industry, Lee Yeonbok is also a famous TV personality. His filmography includes appearances in shows like Boss in the Mirror, Sisters Slam Dunk Season 2, and Let’s Eat Dinner Together.

Over the course of his career, Lee Yeonbok has befriended many stars. One of his most famous friends is BTS’s Jin. In fact, he recently posted a photo with the “Moon” singer on his personal Instagram account, where he revealed how close they are.

In the caption of his photo with Jin, Yeonbok wrote, “When he has some time to spare, he’ll go, ‘Chef-nim~ Please make me something delicious~’ and comes over to play. When he comes by himself, he eats a lot, talks a lot, and is always full of affection.”

Yeonbok also added hashtags in Korean, which translated to “a long-time friend,” “BTS Jin,” and “loyalty.” (He and Jin have been very good friends since they filmed the variety show Please Take Care of My Refrigerator together in 2017.)

Earlier this year, Yeonbok opened up about his friendship with Jin on an episode of Jo Seho’s Wine Bar, a web series hosted by funnyman Jo Seho and produced by the KBS YouTube channel Studio K.

He had the show’s hosts come over to his house to try the wine Jin gave him. Yeonbok revealed that aside from the two bottles from Jin (one of which bears the idol’s signature), he also has bottles from South Korean president Moon Jaein and former US president Donald Trump.

Of the two wines Jin gave Yeonbok, the hosts chose to try the Federalist Cabernet Sauvignon. According to the manufacturer’s web site, this wine was created in honor of Benjamin Franklin, the man known to many as the First American. He was a passionate man who advocated for colonial unity during the American Revolution. He also helped draft the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

According to Yeonbok, his famous friend bought him the wine—which has a purplish-red hue and smells like berries, cinnamon, sweet oak, and tart cherry—while he was on tour in the US.

He revealed that Jin had dropped by his house a few days before the Jo Se Ho’s Wine Bar crew did, much to their astonishment and delight.

“He came here a few days ago as my grandson wanted his signature,” he said. “I asked him for an autograph, and Jin said, ‘I’ll go there tomorrow, right after work.’ I’m really touched by his friendship.”

It’s nice to know that despite his packed schedule, Jin always makes time for his friends.

How envious of Yeonbok are you right now, Jin stans?
