K-ramen's rise is unstoppable.
In the first half of the year, exports of Korean ramen to the United States and the world reached a record high again in a year. In particular, the presence of Korean ramen represents K-food in the US market.
According to a report by the Korea Times in the US on the 26th, overseas exports of Korean instant noodles in the first half of this year amounted to $319.68 million, up 5.8% from the same period last year. This is the highest level in history, exceeding the previous high of $300.8 million in the first half of last year.
Looking at Korea's ramen exports by country, China had the largest amount of $68.13 million, followed by the United States with $37.3 million and Japan with $33.2 million. Exports of Korean ramen to the US have doubled in the past four years, and the status of K-Ramen is increasing day by day.
The reason Korean ramen has become so popular in the United States is because Americans, who have been living at home as their economic activities have been shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic, use Korean ramen as a regular meal and emergency food. In addition, 'Jjapaguri', appeared in the movie 'Parasite', which won four awards at last year's Academy Awards, led the promotion of Korean ramen.
The market expansion strategies of Korean ramen companies are also contributing to raising the status of K-ramen. aT LA branch, a Korean agricultural and fishery product distribution agency, analyzed, “The spread of K-culture, such as K-pop and K-movie, also played a role in rapidly increasing the awareness of K-Ramen among Hallyu fans.”
